LES YEUX ENCHANTÉS

Les Yeux Enchantés is a net.art project about intimacy, created in response to the flurry of personal information that exploded onto the internet in the mid 1990's, the early days of its public use. The work was created as a purposefully secretive love letter, in reaction to the ease at which internet users 'overshared'. In this case, the intimate content is there, but the audience has to work to extract it.

Les Yeux Enchantés is a net.art project created for the first Scottish net.art online exhibition 'elevator', organised by graduates from the Electronic Imaging postgraduate course, at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee.

The project presents an intimate hand-written love letter, the contents of which are revealed to the viewer line by line, in a small window at the centre of the browser window. The text is enlarged so that the hand-writing it is only a readable a few words at a time and the viewer is required to scroll to grasp the text’s full content and meaning. A small thumbnail of the full letter, at the right of the browser window, acts as a portal, linking to each individual line of text. The viewer is required to click each precise line within the thumbnail, to retrieve each intimate slice.

Les Yeux Enchantés was developed with programming support from Simon Yuill. It was created using the newly developed HTML element ‘frames’.
