Skin Studies is a series of collages on paper that explore representations of the body as skin. Developed as an offshoot of Surface Echoes, a creative research project led by Professor Sara Brown and artist Beverley Hood, intended to amplify the voices of people living with eczema.

Skin Studies is a series of twelve collages on paper that take a surreal and playful approach to representations of the body as skin. The series began as experimental sketches for the three-year-long project Surface Echoes, which focused on the dermatological condition eczema. The collages reimagine the form, structure and surface of the body through the creation of new configurations and compositions of skin fragments, taken from lifestyle and health magazines. The resulting series is both tender and delicate, but also barbaric, leaning heavily into the absurd.
